If an inline fuel filter were to be installed, where would be the common place to install it?
I have a 4 barrel Rochester - 350/350 - when replacing the fuel filter in this carb, what size is the large brass fitting the the 3/8 - 5/8 fitting is screwed into ? Not enough room to hold it with an adjustable, there is a vacuumn stem sticking out of the carb.
Where can you find the a replacement spring that goes in first before the paper filter? Thanks for all of your help
I cant help you with the brass fitting but can help you with the filter spring which Mr. Lars helped me with last week and suggested to get in touch with Carbs Unlimited and they have the spring, or buy the Holly Bronze inlet filter and they come with the correct spring for the Q-jet carb.
There was a inline filter on my 350/300hp that the PO had put on which is not stock and came with a steel line from the fuel pump to the carb which I changed back to cause I didnt want to take a chance of a fuel leak on hot engine. If I use a inline filter it will be on the suction line back by the fuel tank.
Hope this helps.
Do a search for the hard fuel line paper written by Lars. I believe the recommended location for a fuel filter is that it always goes between the fuel pump and the carb (or efi system). However, when using an electric pump, some also run a pre-filter on the suction side to protect the pump from larger particles. It is pretty easy to build a hard line from the fuel pump through a filter and on to the carb by following Lars' paper. You just need a tubing bender and a flaring tool.
