Default Fuse Question

Can 16 gage copper wire be protected with a 15 amp fuse? My alarm calls for a 15 amp fuse. The wires from the alarm are 16 gage but it looks thin for a 15 amp fuse. Thanks

According to this chart,

http://www.oznium.com/forum/topic15761

a 16 gauge wire can carry a safe maximum of 7.4 amps so I'd be looking for a 5 amp fuse.

The current capacity of the wire depends of the voltage applied to it.

This chart shows that 15amp would be the maximum current capacity of 16ga wire. http://www.the12volt.com/info/recwirsz.asp

Good luck,
Dino

The positive and negative wires on the alarm unit are 16 gage but the destruction manual calls for a 15 amp fuse. I thought the wires are small for that size fuse. How about a 10 amp "circuit breaker" fuse so if it does trip it will rearm the alarm when it cools?
Thanks
