Default Hood support yanked out

I purchased my 1969 about a month ago.

At the time of purchase the hood support bolts and rubber grommets were still in place on the hood support, but had been yanked out of their holes in the hood.

Now I'm a little confused. It seems like the holes are still a good tight fit in the fiberglass, but how do I get the huge grommets back into the holes?

Do they insert them into the holes before the two halves of the hood come together?

Also, I can't find the parts that I am calling grommets anywhere. Do they have a name?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Brad,
I believe that you a 'shade tree' repair.
Originally there was a 'nut plate' molded into the hood when it was assembled. Either the plate has broken loose or been stripped. The 'shade tree' fix sounds like you have 'well nuts' inserted into the hood in order for the support bolts to have something to tighten into.
Do you want to do a repair or do you want to use 'well nuts again'?
Regards,
Alan

PS: 'Well nuts' are a hardware store item.

Thanks for the help. I think I will go look up some well nuts. I'd be interested in a more substantial repair but I'm pretty busy with school right now.

I did notice what appears to be a metal plate under the fiberglass with drilled threaded holes on the same side but about 3 inches closer to the hinges so it's not likely meant for the hood support as it could not fully extend to that position.

Any idea what those holes are for?

Hi Brad,
From your latest information I'd bet a dollar or two that you don't have a hood support that's the right configuration for your hood or a hood that's not the right configuration for your support.
'Well Nuts' sound even better now.

Alan
