"While a man was polishing his Corvette, his 4 yr old son picked stone &
scratched lines on the side of the car. In anger, the man took the child's
hand & hit it many times, not realizing he was using a wrench.
At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multiple fractures.
When the child saw his father.... with painful eyes he asked 'Dad when will
my fingers grow back?'
Man was so hurt and speechless. He went back to the Corvette and kicked it a lot of
times. Devastated by his own actions..... . sitting in front of that car he
looked at the scratches, child had written 'LOVE YOU DAD'. The next day
that man committed suicide.
Anger and Love have no limits, Choose the later to have a beautiful & lovely
life .
Things are to be used and people are to be loved, But the problem in todays
world is that, People are used and things are loved."

You just made my day Dean. We sometimes loose touch with what's really important. Here's a pic, spending some quality time with my son last month at a local cruise. We always have a great time together checking out the classics.

Suicide,,,, a very permanent solution to a very temporary problem. When I was a kid growing up I spent a lot of time with my Dad, probably more then my 2 sisters and 1 brother did, dunno why, just did. I picked up an awful lot of his ways and thats a good thing cause my two kids tell me that they really appreciate me being "Dad" yep I kick their azz'z when they need it, no not physically, but I dont ever let them slide when I know that they are in need of some "Dad". Keep the faith,,,,,,,,Peace,,,Moosie
Yes. Thanks Dean and all others. Good message to remember who is and who are important in this fast paced world we live in.
I have an almost 9 y.o. grandson who's father does not have an interest in him (father lives out-of-state). I look out after the kid and we've established wonderful ground as I show him how real cars are maintained and hot-rodded. Earlier this year, we assembled a scale-model '69 Vette from the hobby store so he'd have one to call his own.
What a fun time we had. Our next model project he wants is a Gen2 Camaro, like his GrandPa's (me) Z-28.
In our case, the cars are merely subjects to play with and learn in the lessons of life. Hopefully, he won't get too distracted by the negatives that will certainly come his way, as he grows up. We count our blessings too.
A few years ago, I was working on my 86 Vette, sanding and repainting the black beltline trim (PO had painted them body color). Unbeknownst to me, my 3 year old son was on the other side of car "helping" me with a piece of 220 grit sandpaper. Of course, I was ready to come unglued, but I took one look at the little dude and just shook my head. Thank God I waited to have kids...When I was younger, I was way to immature to deal with stuff like that!
This summer my 9 year old son and I were taking my '72 Pontiac Le Mans to car show. We stopped for gas near our house when I noticed smoke from under the hood. One of the new valve covers was leaking because the gasket wasn't aligned with the cover, so I had to turn around and head home to fix it. I was mad, rushing around, barking orders to my 9 year old as we were hurrying to get it fixed so we could make it to the car show. A few days later I found out my son enjoyed the valve cover gasket failure because it gave him an opportunity to work on the car with me. It gave me a whole different perspective of the event.
This summer, one of my 9 year old twin boys opened the door on my 442 into the open door of another car after a little league game. He knew he had screwed up right away. I was pretty furious and just yelled out his name and them bit my lip. I kept my mouth shut on the way home and started to calm down. When we got home, he just looked at me and told me he was sorry.
I was able to pull the dent out to the point that where all you can see is a slight crease in the paint. He helped me wash the car and afterwards it did not look too bad.
As long as I keep the car, I will never repair the crease. Before I know it, he will be 18 and that small dent will be there to remind me of the great summer of 2008.
Most 4 year olds can't write LOVE YOU DAD. But they sure can love their DAD.
Regards,
Alan
PS: Great picture Glenn. The look on his face...
Thanks Alan. I only wish he would work on the vette with me more. Typical 14 year old. Those small hands come in handy and he does love to ride in the vette though, and before I know it , he'll be off to college , married and not home
My daughter's a HS senior this year so we're facing this very soon as well. I really cherish the time with my kids.

My best friend that I met through scouts with my son lost his only child in a car accident. Gone in a flash. His son was absolutely the most important thing to him, and all this "stuff" really isn't that important. Thanks for the post, Dean! BTW- if i put the time and money into a car that I have in my children, I would have a garage full of L-88s!! I would never make that trade
