Hi Chris,
My NCRS, 70-72 Tech Info Manual, says semi-gloss black.
Regards,
Alan

PS: How are you Chris? I haven't seen you on the board for a while. Good to hear your working on your car.

Unfortunately the paint won't adhere to the chrome, due to its smooth surface. Get an automotive self etching primer, Eastwood sells one, tape off the good chrome and primer it first. Then use a semi-gloss black, like John Deere Blitz Black, and paint. This is no guarantee it will adhere, but you have a better chance. If you want to put it in an oven to bake the paint, your odds go up for adhesion. OR, tape off good chrome, lightly dust with a sandblaster to rough the surface up, primer then paint ___DEFINITE ADHESION THEN!!!!!! Might have been cheaper to find some NOS ones......I have several sets, 300$ would have saved all the hassle............

Thanks for the advice guys. I haven't received the bill for the rechroming yet but I think it will be a bit of a shock. This is another set that I had and it had a lot of pitting from the reaction with the diecast over the years.
I had been looking around for an NOS set but the way the Aussie Dollar is now 66c I won't be shopping in the the States for a while yet.
Hello Alan. Yes I am still around and am slowly doing things to improve the car. Got a high NCRS Second Flight early this year so without too much effort should get Top Flight next time around. Having said that I won't be having it judged for a couple of years, it means going to Mainland Australia (from Tasmania), and that's all time and money.

Regards,
Chris

CorvetteLoad, That avatar cracks me up too!

The last of the GM inserts were defective. They had a flaw in them that made installing them almost impossible.

Really!!! I did notice the alignment is a bit off across the top of the hood and insert when I put them on my ex-car. I think I gingerly bent the tab to get it to align better........................B

same problem here. Got GM production around 1990. Had to dremel off some of the underside to get to sit correct. See it just wasnt me.

Hi Chris,
If I recall, that was your car's first time out. If so, and even if not, a Second Flight Score is really great. If you could have gotten a few points for 'miles from St. Louis' you'd have been on easy street.
Regards,
Alan

Hello Alan,
This is the second time I have had it judged. The first one was a low Second Flight and two years later just missed the Top Flight. That's not bad for a car which is the wrong color. Should be Sunflower Yellow but is Mille Miglia Red. I bought her from a lady in Texas knowing it was the wrong color but I couldn't bring myself at that stage to change her back. When the dollar was a lot stronger I was looking for a '69 BB Red Vert with side pipes, and then would have changed this one back to Yellow but couldn't find the right original car. Now the Aussie Dollar is down to 61c I will just have to wait for a while.
