Any tips on selecting new front windshield?

Any tips on selecting new front windshield?
My glass had a few rock nicks in it and this morning when I turned the defroster on one of the chips quckly turned into a 2ft. long crack. So now it's time for new glass. My question is if there is a particular brand that is better quality than the avg. that I should specify be installed or is there a cheap brand that I should avoid?

My Vette shop recommended OEM GLASS as a source for exact replacement glass. I have one from them but haven't installed it yet, I believe a few others on this forum have purchased from them as well with good results. They have the exact thickness as OEM specs and will also etch the glass with the proper year markings if you wish.

I found a place that was going to replace with the OEM for $130 (not bad) but when I got there he said would have to replace the 3-way foam molding as well since it always tears during a windshield replacement. Nobody in town has it so looks like I'll be shopping at Wilcox.

I'm starting to wonder if I really need the moldings replaced that this guy at the glass shop says is a must. Anybody else have to do that? He says there is a piece of foam/rubber that goes underneath the chrome moldings that are beneath the T-tops but I don't see it on Wilcox diagram. I suppose I'll can call Wilcox in the morning and they'll definitely know what's necessary.
