I have a 1970 L46 and am unsure of the routing of the overflow tube from the radiator cap. It runs down the sidewall of the engine bay through a plastic loop, but I also have a metal clip attached to the radiator between the fan shroud and the tank (I think the clip is not mounted properly and am unsure how it goes). Can anyone tell me if this clip is supposed to hold the tube and provide a picture? I have the Chassis Service Manual but it does not cover this.
Thanks,
Greg
Hi Greg,
I looked through everything I have but I couldn't find anything that showed the overflow hose beyond the point where it turns down alongside the radiator. Sorry!
Regards,
Alan
The 70>72 NCRS JG calls for a clip on copper rads that are attached to the rear of the pasenger side header tank to hold the overflow hose. Sorry I don't have such a clip on my 71....the overflow tube just hangs down along the side of the rad.
Thanks, guys. I appreciate the effort. I've got a clip bit it was clearly in the wrong position. I'll fit it in to match the description in the JG but I don't know what to do with the sidewalll strap it currently goes through...
Hi Greg,
Where is the side-wall strap? Is it where the strap is for a car with an aluminium overflow tank?
Curious!
Regards,
Alan
Alan,
In the picture above it is right about where the high pressure line fitting is sitting - the one that is partially visible in the pic - mounted on the engine bay wall. It could have been added by the radiator shop. I'll need to find an original L46 car to figure this out.
