Default 1971 Baldwin Motion GT

I was looking through the Hemmings web page and found this 1971 Baldwin Motion GT. They are aking $250,000.00. I didn't know that they also changed the headlights when they did these conversions.

I am still very torn and can't decide if I like the Datsun headlights enough to buy that car. Maybe I'll sleep on it one more night before deciding.

I never much cared for this modification, but I think just about all the Motion Vettes had this done, and lots of people copied it as well.

I don't know.. Those lights and that paint job are kinda to me. I can definitely understand why people get away from them, but the pop-up lights on C3's are one of the signature things that I love about them so much. But that's just my opinion.

That's a loooooot of money for a car.

Was there something about the mechanicals on these Baldwin Motion cars that seats them apart from a stock Vette or is it just the silly looking body kit? I had a 240Z and I liked the headlight treatment on that car, but it really doesn't do much for the Vette except make it look like a 240Z (which actually looked like an E Jag). And, if the car in the picture is the car in question, where did the lift kit and the cholo paint job come from? For $250K you could own a real Shelby Cobra.

$250K is real ambitious. The Baldwin Motion cars were a piece of history especially to street racers here in the East. They were real fast at the drags and in the street but for that kind of money you can get some real nice classic cars taht would be recognized internationally.

Default Baldwin-Motion

I think some of the Baldwin-Motion Vettes did have Headlight covers.
All of the Baldwin-Motion cars have quite a following and it probably will sell at that price with the new owner thinking that he got a bargain.
Also, that car doesn't appear to have the motor in it at this time.

A couple words on the headlights, they were inspired by the XKE, NOT the 240z. British Leyland bits made up the buckets and trim rings. Plexi covers were available early but the government made them stop (a veeerrry pricey piece if you can find 'em).

The psychodelic paint on this car was not Motion but added by a PO later. Motor is out of the car. Believed to be the last Phase III GT made. /:\

I thought that same thing when Vette Fever did an issue on those cars in Nov. 2008. The 240Z lights look fine on the period Datsuns but they look like crap on a Corvette.

The don't look anything like the E Type Jaguar lights - I'm a Jaguar fan from WAY back http://www.myruffhouse.com/xk_120_jaguar.htm. They are 240Z clones.

I'm not a fan of the Datsun lights either. But there is no doubting the historical significance of the Motion cars. And they do look mean as hell from the rear.
