I completely understand your feelings about the car. Mine is something very similar to yours. The car has no monetary value to me as it will never be sold. It will cost whatever it costs to do any work that I want to get done to it. It will get finished when it gets finished. Somethings don't have a price tag.
I have gotten a lot of help and advice from great people on this forum. As a matter of fact, 427basket case is comming over to get a first hand look and give me some direction.
First, I would like to publicly thank 427basketcase for comming to check out Dads car. He let me know that it is probably not as bad as I thought. Second, I found that the heads, casting #333882, are 1.94/1.50 heads. Are these decent heads or should I replace with aftermarket?

The 882 heads flow very badly and are prone to cracking. The L82 882 heads do have larger valves but flow is not improved.
If you want better flow and more performance the heads need to be swapped out for something after market...like maybe some iron Vortec heads. However, you won't get the best results from heads unless you also combine that with better flowing exhaust and a good cam.
That's good to hear
I'd still like to cruise on over this coming Friday if that's alright
I'm not familiar with the 882's, but I can say that after you're done having them rebuilt(machine work, valve job, new hardware, etc.) for a few $$ more you can pick up a set of aluminum heads, lots to choose from. I am running Brodix IK200's, they cost right around $1K a couple years ago
DB,thanks for the advice. It already has headers and a small comp cam, so I've been told, so I have been looking at the Edlebrock heads. But it is down the road a ways as there is a lot of work to do before the motor.
682XLR8, would love to have you up. Just give me a call and let me know what time.
