Just Got Dealer Invoice!! (Available For '77 On Up)
I ordered my build sheet from GM Media Archive and chose the "Email" option and got it 2 days later (today)! Very informative and well worth the $50 bucks to have a bit of history for my car. I didn't know I had the Gymkhana suspension so that was a nice piece of info. You can order online and they'll call you back to take your payment over the phone. Nice people and really fast. I know there are other posts with this information, but I thought I'd share the excitement

The original dealer invoice used to be free from GM until they made the mistake of letting the forum know they were available. Demand was high so they farmed the task out to a sub-contractor who charged for the service.
That isn't a build sheet but it tells you what options were originally installed on the car and what dealer it was originally shipped to. I found some useful info on the 79 that I used to own - like the original color was Silver rather than the White that was on it when I bought it.
Before the flood of posts starts like it always does when this subject comes up - you can't get the invoices for older Vettes. They only go back to 76 or so. I would love to have one for my 72 but it ain't gonna happen.
If you are interested in the history of the invoices search for Venezia and you will fins the posts from Peggy Venezia, the GM rep who originally supplied the information. I believe the available invoice years are in that thread somewhere.

Sorry that I didn't mention that "small" bit of info. On the website that I link to it even says "Chevrolet from 1977" so they probably don't have anything from early 77 or before. I hope I didn't get anyone too riled up about this, only to find disappointment. I'd also like to mention I dindn't find this website. I got it from a link on this great forum. I can't find the original post, or I'd link to it.
I just tried a search for Venezia and it appears the original posts are long gone. 77 and newer sounds right to me for availability. I just didn't want to get hopes up for older model C3 owners.
I just ordered mine for my '80. It's not about clearing up any uncertainty - The curiosity just got the best of me. I could have pulled the tank sheet but this is a lot easier and certainly easier to read.
I would pay a LOT more for my '69 paperwork but nobody has it available yet.
I got my invoice! - Not too many surprizes there. The original Hallman's Chevrolet dealership in Rochester NY is no longer in business but the fancy art deco building still stands. It has been converted into a trendy coffee house.
This invoice service would be INVALUABLE if they could just go back another 10 years or so on the available documents. I think they now stop at 1977.
When I visited the GM Heritage Museum a couple years ago they indicated that the only available Corvette build information was from the Bowling Green Assembly Plant. They said that all of the St. Louis build information was missing and that it was most likely destroyed. That would place the first reliable build information as June 1, 1981 when Bowling Green came on stream building Corvettes.
Obviously some information from St. Louis (1977 model year and up) has become available. Who knows? Possibly there might be even older information that might be forthcoming.
Edit: I appears that the GM Media Archive information is not a copy of the vehicle build sheet but is actually the "ship to dealer" information.

Jim,
Yes it is a shipper but it does show all the options, dates, codes, colors, prices, etc. I will continue to wait for the rest of the older paperwork to be "located". I figured at the least we want to do our part to show GM that this service is important and valuable. EVERYBODY GO BUY YOUR PAPER WORK!
