How do you remove a radio for an 82 corvette? Through the front panel or out the back/side.
It has to come out the back. The bezel is flat on the front minus the holes for the radio *****. You'll have to pull out the gauge bezel with the radio still in it. Then you can pull off the ***** and the retaining nuts and remove the radio.
How much of the side console needs to be removed to gain access to the back?
You can remove just the gauge bezel but you will need to remove both transmission tunnel side panels to access the screws that hold the gauge bezel to the shifter panel. There is one on either side and the screws hold the to panels together at that seam.
Here's where you'll find yourself! I also removed the fasteners for the console plate(don't remove it) to gain a little wiggle room. Handle things with care, that old plastic can be brittle.
CPMMAN: Do yourself a favor and purchase the '82 assembly instruction manual. The AIM will show you the factory installation, including the hidden screws at the bottom of the bezel.
