Side pipe Muffler Question
Hey everyone. I know this has been betean to death, but I did a search and couldn't find the specific info i needed...
Basically (i know this may sound stupid), my sidepipes are too loud, based on the townhouse community that I live in, and the hospital I work at. Bad enough, in fact, that a petition has gone around my community to ask that I only drive my car during certain hours because it is disruptive when I leave and return.
Nevermind the freaking poodles two doors down that bark thier heads off all night long and nobody says anything...
Anyway, because of my situtation, I am looking to get new mufflers for my sidepipes, to "tone down" the sound. I guess I have to choose low sound over high performance at this point. Anyone have any ideas as to the optimal muffler for relatively quiet pipes, while still retaining some quality to the sound, without sacrificing too much performance. I am open to any suggestions that anyone has.
P.S. i have a '69 with ls1 swap and hooker pipes
Thanks everyone!!

Some good info here. You need baffles that slide up inside your sidepipes.

I just put the Hooker set up on my 81. its so loud it made my buddys kid cry for 20 min. I just ordered a set of mufflers from sweet hunder for 150.00. they have a sound clip on there web site
thanks for the input guys....
i guess i'm getting somewhat mixed reviews.
i read earlier that the spiral baffles are pretty loud, to the effect of setting off car alarms, etc., but performance-wise from everyone on these forums its sounds like they are awesome. i'm hesitant to drop 300+ dollars only to find them too loud.
does anyone know how they compare to the 2" sweet thunders? (sound and performance)
thanks!

Not to jack his thread, but I am looking for the opposite. Loud, and free flowing. My old ones must have had the hooker glasspacks, but they were relatively quiet at idle, and although loud at WOT, were harsh. They really didnt sound awesome at all, at idle.
Im interseted in something deeper and throatier like this:

My Hookers have the original mufflers that came with the headers and pipes through Jegs. I think they sound the same as normal dual exhaust cars. I don't know the part numbers but I guess you could Google it through Jegs or Holley.

have you thought of glass packing them.
