Well, there's a C3 group on Facebook, one post asked who is also on here and here is one (of 3) replies:

"I am, its a great site. The people there are really helpful, and they don't rip on you too bad if you have a dumb question".

So there you are, you are appreciated

For the most part, the ones that nag on the new members with what some would call 'stupid' questions have all either been banned or have left voluntarily. I don't mind the same questions from different new members. It keeps people sharp and gives newer members a chance to see something the rest of us saw a few months ago.

Besides, I personally feel there is no such thing as a stupid question here, except a question not asked.

Ya got to help the new guys/girls. Asking questions is the best way to learn and then go on to help others.

D-Boy, I couldn't agree with you more. I have personally asked some "Stupid" questions and have recieved excellent responses from the good people here on this forum. There are many people. like me, that know just enough about cars to get started on projects, but it is with the help of people like you that we are able to proceed and finish them. So, all you "stupid" people out there, keep the questions comming.

I've asked a few "stupid" questions to some very simple problems and always got a courteous and helpful response from the members here. I expect I'll ask more. I never felt I was looked down upon. Vettes have very unique issues, so problems are not always obvious on how to fix them. This forum is 1st class in my book!

Yeah, you have to understand that especially in the C3 genre, it's kind of a common entry-level (I know some people hate that term) range of vehicles, so it's very understandable that there would be a flow of first time buyers with C3s.

It would follow that many first-time questions would be repeated over time. One thing I see is, as some Corvette enthusiasts spend more time in the hobby, they enjoy being able to answer some of those questions for the latest crop of newbies.

So, everybody wins, including the hobby.

Sometimes I think the "Search" function could be used more often to find those common problems and solutions. That said, I know I've posted a couple that latter made me ask "What was I thinkin'"

I agree with you totally, but some new members are joining a forum for the first time and are either not aware of the search function or they don't know how to best utilize it as a tool. A new member will start by asking, and later learn the usage of all the tools we have here.

Besides, there is a downside to always telling a new member to stop asking and search...besides making them feel unwanted. It leaves more and more threads that get pulled up during a search that dig up no new information and just more and more results that just say, 'Search'.

There are real answers under those threads but it might be discouraging to a new member after seeing ten threads in a row that simply tell some other new member to stop asking and search.

I use the search feature quite often and I can see how it would be hard for new members to use properly AND not get frustrated.

Sad thing is, there is no shortage of stupid answers. Hard for the new guys to tell the wheat from the chafe.

...but like I said, MOST of them left. Some do sneak back in occasionally to stir up trouble.

This is absolutely true. I think sometimes you need to comb through some of the answers to realize there's quite a few wrong ones.

I'm new here to CF. I have been reading it for a while though. Almost all my life I have been in the performance world, but nobody knows everything and I appreciate a friendly place to find answers.

not to make the direction of the thread go terribly askew but this kind of follows your statement, I thought it was funny

Very few of us are actual mechanics. But it's like panning for gold - you go through a lot of rocks before you find a nugget!

DB's reply is well stated IMHO.
I try not to ask to many questions or a question until I have researched the subject first, which I'll go thru the archives and if I cant find the anwser I'm looking for then I'll start to look else where with search engines and such. I to dont like to be told "HEY" Do A Search.
Just the other day, trying to figure out the difference between the long and short water pump pully to get for my car. Crap they made a long a short pully? How do I tell the difference? I do a search on a search engine and guess what I found.
The very same question I had or wanted to know came up and it was from the CF back in 2002. The search was spot on and explained the difference in pullys and how to measure for the long and short and for a bonus it described a little info and dates as well. I'm thinking 2002. Thats an old thread what if things have changed in the design sense then but in my case it hadnt. Thats when I would post A thread to find out if a item still applied to my application.
My point is I like to search for things and it always seems that I run across other info about these cars that I would have never seen or thought of until I really needed it bad.
What I thought was cool was when reading about the water pump pullys that was posted in 2002 was it was paul67 that anwsered the questions and he's still sharing info for others to this day.
The questions that I have asked here on the CF forum have all been replied to with quik response and I thank you all.

Don't believe everything you read. There was no mass banning. Most leave because they don't agree with the way things are handled or discussed. I never had a problem with people responding with "use the search" function. That's fictous to me. And I haven't seen many others do this. This warning should be applied to the front page. "Even when you do use the search function, a lot of the answers can be incorrect as well". It's trigger happy posters that have to be the first to answer that generally give wrong answers. Don't always believe the first answer you read in a thread. Let it build some replies. If it doesn't get shut down because someone gave a wrong answer and a pissing macth started, you will easily get the right answer...eventually...not immediately. There are clear reasons I do not post near as much as I used to on here
