I just installed an HEI distributor and new plug wires in my Vette and WOW!!!!! What a difference. I have noticed a gradual decline in the performance of my car, and I have had a nagging problem with the coil (I think), so I decided to pull the trigger and go with HEI. Anyway, I installed it this afternoon and, thanks to all the knowledge on this forum, it was a very easy job. I took it on a road test to warm it up, and it ran great, even before I set the timing with the light! Thanks to all the forum members that have posted about timing and such. I hope I haven't offended any purists by doing away with the points and condenser!

Congratulations and welcome to the HEI club. What Brand did you go with? Did you manage to keep your original distributor shield? I have the Dragonfire unit by All Ignition. made a world of difference for my vette.

Same questions from me! I want to do the same with my '72 small block. I would like a good recommendation, but really want to keep by shielding in place.

Thanks,
Dino

Yeah - you probably did . but Ya can't please EVERYONE. I installed an aftermarket HEI and yeah , it made a nice difference. Parts wear out , and technology improves. I try to have a nice balance , then throw the old part in the bush.

I bought it on Ebay from CRT. It is the one with the funky orange cap and coil. With shipping it was $115.00. I was very pleased with the strong shipping box and the rapid handling of my order. I don't have any ignition shielding, so I can speak for that. It is also a very snug fit against the air cleaner.

One of the nice things about having an HEI is that you can run an MSD module with a rev limmiter. Save your motor. It works, tested by accident. The through screw holes are smaller then the metric ones. The modules can still be put in the forgien made bodies, you just have to use 6-32's with a lock washer and nut on the bottom side.
