my comp ta's are old and i need new rubber. since i will only put 1500 miles on the car each year, what are the stickiest (best traction under dry conditions in south fla) tires i can buy. im not opposed to buying pure racing tires as im after the best possible traction. can anyone direct me? thanks in advance!

If you are looking for the best street tire in a 15in that will maximize handling and traction, you are completely out of luck! I just ditched my 255/60/15 BFG radial T/A's with like you almost no mileage since I was tired of the lousy handling and ride. I finally smartened up with 17 in SLP rims with 255/45/17 ZR in front and 255/50/17 ZR kuhmos in the rear. The handling and ride is unbelieveable compared to any 15 in for my car! Completely transformed the handling and steering response!
What SteveG75 said. The Cobra guys love them and they make sizes perfect for our cars. OD's on all sizes are 26.7. Not cheap but a great option for 15's that are DOT legal and sticky.
This was my favourite option before going into Hoosier's...unfortunately the guy (Rogerkrausracing.com) never answered my e-mails so i quit these tires altogether after sometime.
I went into Hossiers, paid something more then half price (for a sweet and sticky rubber...) and have experienced the best customer service i ever found anywhere...
The problem with racing tires is that they are dangerous until you get them up to temp like 170 - 200 degrees F. Rain cools the rubber and without rain grooves makes them unsafe.
I have Kumho Ecsta MX 255/45/17 's on the front. They are one of the best street tires I have used.

Absolutely agree! Forget racing tires on the street, very dangerous, thus my comments above referencing street tires. Go for ZR's (170/186 MPH rated) that are low profile (45/50 series) and will improve the ride and handling. You will not be disappointed!
in the 70s i ran hoosier street tds on my autocross corvette they had a dot number and were street legal. these tires were a gumball raceing tire and was very hard to spin the car out no matter how hard you went into a turn. these tires were the ultimate in performance tires.
