I was just wondering if any of you have installed the delux interior kit from Zip. Did you find it of good fit and quality? Thanx for your input.

As a rule of thumb, replacement parts rarely ever fit perfectly. Keys to remember are using a heat gun to make the panels pliable and that you'll have to work some of the panels to get them to fit properly.

Also, have a look at Wilcox for the interior panels instead of Zips. I have bought from both and found better results from Wilcox.

Hah ha only Willcox works for Willcox, none of us do.

We've almost all installed Willcox products into our cars and loved the results. The rule of thumb is if you can successfully take it out you can successfully put it back in.

Wilcox Products = Corvette America Products at a lower price

Most everything I have bought from them were drop shipped from Corvette America, I'm not saying that's a bad thing.........I just wanted to clear up the confusion.

Do a search for Corvette America interiors to get a better idea of fit and quality. Most everything in my 82 is Corvette America brand (purchased from Wilcox) and the fit is "ok" at best.......but exactly what I expected from aftermarket products.

Don't ever expect something to "drop in place" And if it does then you done well Kind of a hit and miss sometimes.

I don’t care where it ships from as long as I get a quality part and a good price. I think what sets Wilcox apart is their obvious approach to caring. I deal with Norm and Tommy and they treat me like a friend and not just another customer. I don’t get some moron on the phone that is clueless about what I need! Now that is taking care of business to me.

They know their cars and stand behind what they sell. They are about 30 minutes form me and I’ve used them for both parts and service work. They did my tele column, my rear end, half shafts, trailing arms and on one car they fixed my windshield wipers after three shops said the motor was defective.

I don’t agree with Willcox Products = Corvette America at lower prices and the fit is “OK” at best. I have never had one issue with fit and the one problem I did have was fixed in three days. Have you ever been in the warehouse behind the parts store? There are two buildings, two floors of nothing but parts and not to mention about 10 wicked cars.

I don't work there, I just tinker with cars!

Actually after spending almost $1500 - 2000 from them two years ago I DID have a quality issue, I was having problems getting a decent tach/speedo lens for my 82. The chrome was peeling or the lens had blemishes in it.

I asked them (Wilcox) to personally inspect the lens before it shipped out to make sure it wasn't defective.

I then get a tacky email back from them in rather large font (same as shouting) that this was as good as anything GM ever sent out. Like I was really putting them out to have to do that.

So after spending quite a bit of hard earned cash with them, they gave me a hard time with this part and then blocked me as a buyer on eBay. I was treated horribly as a customer during that time and didn't deserve it....I promise you that.

It's obvious they have changed their tune over the last year or so in the customer service department, but that was a sucky move on their part with the eBay thing. Especially since I bought my whole interior from them prior to that (seat covers, dash, door panels, console parts, carpet etc).

But as far as fitment issues, you can do a search about complaints with the quality of the repro parts.......that's the point I was making. Everything I purchased from Wilcox, except for the ACC carpet had a Corvette America sticker and part number on it.....heck all I had to do was give them a CA part number if I needed something.

I was merely pointing out (as Durango Boy did in the second post) that you can't expect repro stuff to be / fit perfect.

Maybe Wilcox can chime in and tell the original poster the brand of interior they sell....because last I recall it was Corvette America....at a lower price than what they (Corvette America) sells it for.

BTW...This is a Wilcox Interior, most of the money building this went to them....even the speedo / tach lens

82Vettedude,

I agree with a lot of you post, and even the one about the dye! Dye is just glorified paint! It will work on hard parts but on soft parts like seat covers, door panels it will fail over time.

I don’t have a clue what set you off! I still keep all the original emails exchanged between you and my sales. (It adds to what we say, we keep copies of everything, even three years old).

All the emails are in 14 font Georgia. This is our standard font and size on all outbound emails. None of our emails are sent in any different font or size from the sale staff. In fact, I’m sure if you asked anyone here all emails from sales come in this font. Simply put it’s easy to read. Anyone that received an email from Willcox@willcoxcorvette.com can verify this.

No one was trying to anger you; the guys were just trying to fulfill your request. Mistakes happen and no one is angry, but when sales pulls the part from our shelf inspects it and then has other people in house check it, I don’t see this as a problem especially when you requested it. And yes three people really did inspect this part! In fact, in my notes here shipping did not see the request and had the part boxed ready for pickup. We pulled the box back, inspected it against all the other lenses in stock and found you the best one!

I’m not sure why you thought our reply to be offending, but you did. Your response to our reply is what prompted sales to block you on eBay. I’m sure any other vendor on EBay, or here would have responded the same way. It was to say the least, a huge surprise to us and we would rather not have controversy! When you stated this was your last order with us, blocking you should not have mattered but you must have changed your mind.

What I don’t understand is why you keep attacking us on this and other forums. We did what you asked us to do, and you fired at us. Instead of engaging in verbal exchanges we choose to walk away.

We don’t live in a glass and I’m sure my guys will make mistakes, they are human . . . but the best damn humans I know! They will go over and beyond what is expected from them for you and for me!

Yes our interior products are made by Corvette America and yes the larger items will ship from their warehouse instead of from us. Whenever we can consolidate an order to either save shipping or time we will send the items from Corvette America. It may cost us money but it gets the order moving!

I’ve pasted the original copies of the emails below since I feel I’m on trial with you. It’s water under the bridge! No one here is angry with you and I would hope you are not angry with us. I think you realized you miss-read our reply from the email especially when we received an apology from you (pasted below). I think you are angry that you were blocked and would hope you would realize why after re-reading your email.

It’s coming on a new year and this is the time of the year for good thoughts not bad, it’s a time for giving, not a time for anger. As I’ve stated above, it’s water under the bridge and no one here is upset.

Happy Holidays,

Willcox Inc.

Here is a copy of the request email.

Hi,

I'm a big volume repeat customer, I've built my whole interior buying from you guys, but I have a concern.

I just paid for this through Paypal. This is my third one (second from you guys) and the last two were pretty much junk(sorry). If all possible could you have somone do a quality control check on this part before grabbing another one off the shelf and shipping it to me? The last two had black overspray on the clear portion of the lens where it was poorly masked during the painting process. Some of the black paint didn't make it where it needed to be too The chrome was peeling also.

Hopefully third times a charm because I don't want to come off picky but the last two were obviously rushed to make and if they paid more attention they could have produced a better product. Someone should be shot for that kind of quality. I just want the chrome to be consistent where it needs to be and the black paint off the center of the lens where it should be clear....Thanks so much for your help.

Here is a copy of our reply!

Three people have looked at the one we are sending you.

This part is as good as anything GM ever sent out.

Here is a copy of what you sent back to us! Shocked to say the least.

Sorry to be a bother, by the sound of your tone it seems that I have caused a issue with my simple request. I can honestly say that the previous Tach/Speedo lens I recieved didn't compare to the quality of my original. I understand the issue with ordering GM and aftermarket parts not being "perfect". I don't think even GM sent them out with a black overspray mask in the center where it's supposed to be clear. Usually I praise you guys on the Corvette Forum with regards to your service, but I think you were being a little sarcastic with your email. Obviously you don't care about my concerns. This will be the last thing I order from xxxxxx. Your email was offending. Thank You

And here is one of the last emails I received from you.

From: xxxxxxxxxx

I'm sorry I took the first reply about having "three people inspecting it and it's as good as what GM would send out" kind of sarcastic. I guess I was thinking about the last two parts I received while reading that email.
I was aggravated on the quality of the last two because I've been in manufacturing most of my life and some of the issues with the pieces could have been avoided. Especially since one would have "this" problem wrong with it and another would have a totally different thing wrong with it, so it shouldn't be hard to turn out a good piece.

Thank you for taking the time to do this, I was in a rush while reading the email and somewhat frustrated with the quality of the parts I have gotten in the past and felt like I was taking a gamble on another bad part.

If I can help let me know. My son and I did a complete strip down and interior install on my (one of my two) 77's this summer. Stick with Wilcox for your products, they are USA made and I found the fit and finish to be superior. If you want to go from this:

to this:

You want to stack the odds in your favor.

I have just over 300 pictures of our transformation including carpet install, seat install, dash install, trim install, you name it, we probably did it. If you want help, just let me know.

By the way, one of my two is Corvette Orange as well.

The Red one used to be Corvette Orange and will be one day again.

Wilcox ~

I'm not angry anymore, it's obvious that my little issue isn't going to hurt your sales and most likely once all the other members that have had good dealings with you will most likely chime in and eat me up.

I wasn't trying to bad mouth anyone in my first post, I was trying to help the poster make a decision and better inform him about purchasing an interior kit. Like I said there is nothing wrong with purchasing from you guys, and it will most likely be Corvette America brand at a lower price. When bluegoosed made the comment about "caring" it reminded me of MY personal dealings with you.

Yes I had a bad experience with you guys, in my defense I have mentioned that I already purchased a complete interior from you guys before the speedo /tach lens incident. All I wanted was a little personalization to a product that was hit and miss and I was spending over $50 for (shipping included). I was on my third one.....

All of my dealings with you prior were via email and it was upbeat and you used my name in the emails. tIn my defense the email that upset me was in a larger font, quick and no reference to my name.....it felt like a totally different tone than the other emails.

This is what I seen:

Three people have looked at the one we are sending you.

This part is as good as anything GM ever sent out.

No reference to my name, no "Thank you", No "If you need anything else let us know!"...pretty cut and dry....nothing I seen in the previous emails....when I was spending $500 here, or $700 there...

So YES it upset me Then after I apologized to try to get pass it, a little while later I was trying to purchase something else from you on eBay I get a message that you blocked me. That rubbed more salt in the wounds.

I'm not going around bringing this up, actually this has been the first time I've said anything in a year or longer.

As you said "Water under the bridge" But I do have a right to mention my negative experience as other have the right to mention their positive experiences......personally I don't think mine will put a dent in your sales.

I'm glad a vendor has stepped up as you guys have and offering personalized services like you have done in the last year or so. We need that.

Merry Christmas to you guys as well it's all good

I was going to jump in and offer some thoughts to both sides based on what I saw and read as a third party but it looks like it was just a communication breakdown and everything is settled for the good. Glad to hear it.

I vouch for Wilcox parts...been using them a long time and I know for a fact that the guys at Wilcox are SUPER busy ALL the time and when three of them inspect one part it means they wanted the customer to be assured of what they got. Not to mention that being that busy usually means very short and to the point emails and I would hate to see good people misunderstood because of internet perception issues.

Good work guys for getting this worked out.

82! Great, now we can move forward and I’m sure with your knowledge, possibly assist each other with helping people.

I’ve sent a Christmas order thru for you today; it will ship out on Monday. My treat and I’m sure you’ll like it. I don’t know if it will make it in time but let’s hope.
