I just got a 68 and I'd like to do something about the radio antenna. I'd prefer to listen to the sweet sound of the engine, so I don't really care about a fixed antenna. I figure I'd like something that would smooth out the rear, without doing the body work (that'll be in the future). Is there anything out there that provides a smooth look? Maybe even a plug of some kind? Or a smaller, shorter antenna?
why not try a hidden attena under the dash ?...
you should be able to stick a regular antenna under the dash,
car is fiberglass, so it should receive, maybe not optimum reception.
I was going to do this, under I saw the antenna hole already in place on my car.
I actually have a small hidden antenna in the upper right corner on the inside of the windshield stuck to the glass. Very hard to see unless you are looking for it.
I suggest that one because it works great but then you have to deal with the hole in the back...either glassed up or plugged up, and with a retractable style you don't have to do anything but install the new antenna.
You don't need a antenna anyway to listen to FM - just 3-5 Feet of antenna wire. The antenna and all the chrome ignition shielding was done so AM radio would not have as much static. Yes, you don't need the chrome shielding except for originality.
