Default Need Help w/Trans Hook-Up [PICS]

I have a rebuilt Turbo 350 Trans w/Shift Kit. I know the metal tube running from the trans need to hook-up to the manifold vacuum (Edelbrock RPM AirGap). I'm not exactly sure how & why the system works but I was looking for an explanation. Also, the hook-up going from the trans to the carb (Holley Street Avenger 770 w/1" spacer) needs to be completed. The bracket I have looks to be too low and I am wondering if anyone has a pic on how they did thiers and what parts you used.

Mark,

The vacuum line is for the vacuum modulator. Basically a spring loaded spool valve in which the spool slides back and forth with engine vacuum to control the main fluid pressure. As vacuum changes with engine load, the modulator controls fluid pressure to increase or decrease the holding pressure of clutches and plates and since it's in the same ciricuit as the governor it assists in the shift points. Does your rebuilt trans have a stock or an adjustable modulator? Something you'll need to know.

You'll need the Holley stud kit to attach your cables to the carb. I can't see the alignment of the downshift cable bracket but it looks like you need to incorporate the trans cable mount below the throttle cable mount for clearance. You could weld the 2 brackets into one piece.

To keep the throttle cable bracket from moving you'll need a welder. If you overtighten the one stud mount you'll crack the throttle body. You might be able to modify the Q-jet bracket or you can weld an extension to your bracket that would go across to the other rear stud so that the bracket is mounted on 2 studs for stability. You could also weld a couple drops on the underside of your bracket that would align with the edge of the throttle body and limit the back and forth movement of the bracket. Call me if you need it welded.

As always, thanks Al! Here are a few more pics for anyone that may have the same issues. The first is trying to show the height differences between the trans & throttle cables. The second is showing the modulator. I presume it's stock since I didn't pay anything extra for an adjustable one. Can anyone confirm based off the pic?
