Default Where To Begin? *Updated w/ Pics*

So far I replaced all the hoses, liquids, battery, all the minor stuff. But right now I have just been driving until something goes wrong. I am not too sure where to begin to get her in proper working order?

heres some pictures ill post more soon.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v1...0d3z/corvette/

Heres what I have planned...

1) Break down to chasis and work my way out

2) check all mechanical parts

3) work on interior of the car

4) finish off with the exterior

my technical skills aren't that great, so im learning as i go. i would say there very basic.

I've had this car for almost half a year, got it for $3,250

$3,250, minor repairs and then drive THE American sports car. Sounds like a great deal to me. Get yourself some good manuals, search the site for tech info and you'll have no problems with the projects you've planned.

Have fun

Yup, sounds like a great deal. Drive it for a while and the car will let you know what needs attended to.

It is not terribly difficult to remove the body from the frame. It's a lot of work though. There have been many posts on the forum about it. Do a search for "frame off" and you should find a bunch of threads about it with good pictures. If I had it to do over again, I would have done it this way. I have ended up replacing everything mechanical anyway and it would have been much easier with the body out of the way.

Take some pictures of the frame rust, and post them here. Also, check the bird cage (frame around the windshield) for rust damage. It may cost alot to get all of the rust fixed..

Also post some pictures of the engine compartment.

After saying this about the rust, I think you got a good deal for a running driving L82 PC for $3250. I also say drive it for a while first before tearing into it.

I agree with what the others have said. Drive the car and enjoy it before really tearing into it. As long as you do not have to depend on the car to be the daily driver you should be in good shape. Drive it now, enjoy it, when something breaks fix it. If you plan on doing a body off, it is a big job and one that a bunch of guys have done. I say you have done well buying an L-82 Pace Car for $3250.

yeah $3250 is a good price, the guy i got it from had it passed down from his dad, and the son wasn't really into american cars, he was more into Honda Civic's, integras, and Supras... so he didnt really think much about it, he just wanted to get rid of it. so when I ran a VIN number check... it turned out it was a pace car, the stickers were stuffed in the back seat compartment area, so i took the initiative paid cash for it.

but yeah so body off build isnt tooo difficult ? thats what im planning to do. i have about $15,000 over the course of this year's budget well 2009-2010.

but yeah being on this forum im learning bit by bit about cars.

im trying to do as much by myself as possible so i can learn more. time is not an issue.

You might be a little misled on the body-off rebuild. It's not too difficult to separate the body from the frame, but you need tools, and a lot of space to store parts. Once you get the body off the frame will need to be cleaned, painted and then you will want to rebuild/replace everything that attaches to it. Your budget would certainly cover the costs, especially if you do some of the work yourself. You will have the satisfaction of knowing that you are dropping the body back down onto an essentially brand-new chassis.

If you search on threads that I have started you can see some of the restoration/mods that I have been doing to my 72.

It looks like the car is mostly intact from what I can tell. Whoever had the car must have stored it in the yard though which is very hard on a vette. I see lots of surface rust in the pics of the underside of the car. I think I see some rust under the windshield trim which can be a bad thing. Hard to tell from your pics. I really think it still is a nice car for the price.

One tip about shooting closeups like this, use the macro function on your camera. Usually this setting looks like a flower when changing settings. This will force the camera to focus on close items and leave the background out. Give it a try. Just don't forget to change back to your normal settings when shooting normal pics.

How bad is surface rust? Yeah The rust on the windshield trim looks bad, i apologize for the camera shots, I'm not that great at taking pictures and its my g/fs camera.

Any other suggestions ?

So far right now I'm getting the space available to do a body of build

Hi Jay,
Doing a body off restoration is a wonderful thing.
It'a a LOT of work.
It takes $$$$
It can take a LONG time.
It takes SPACE to do.
You can't drive it.
The results can be incredible.
Regards,
Alan
