What should the wiper compartment be for painting purposes ??

Same as under hood ? overspray/no overspray ? body color ???

the whole car was painted 1st.

then the engine compartment, underside of the hood, wheel wells were blacked out.
the wiper bay area had no blackout paint on the firewall side (bare glass), the blackout was applied to the hood lip, and wiper well areas towards the back of the car.

On my original paint 72, there was no blackout on the bottom of the wiper well area also, only on the side the front window mounts on.

The wiper transmissions were installed and sealant was applied to the transmissions before blackout.

From the way the overspray was laid down, it seemed the painter stood in the engine compartment when applying the blackout.

Hope this helps some.

Hi F65,
I agree with 72's information. I would only add that the amount of blackout varied some from car to car and worker to worker. The way the wiper-well was sealed and treated was very rough.
Regards,
Alan

In the first picture you can see the boy color where I've started to wipe off the 'blackout' on my 71.
