Default Need some advice from the auto body experts !

Looking at a 68 427 tri power Vert, numbers correct, has some issues on the body gaps. Had a one piece front end installed years ago. Same owner over 20 years, older frame off resto.
Just wondered whats going on with the trim n top of the fender and the gaps at the top rear of the door

door gaps can be adjusted, further adjustments can be made by removing or adding body shims

Great color, and white top....just like mine....

Tough to tell what's causing the gap in the door. I had a c-3 like that and corrected it by removing body mount shims on the mount near the rear of the door. Snugged up the mount and the gap closed right up.

No major wrecks, car is in Milwaukee and I looked at it last Tuesday. Frame looks straight. Owner had pics befor fix, front fenders and valance had damage to top, like someting was dropped on the car or.....drove under something

There are 2 different shapes and lengths for the rear top fender trim pieces. I believe they changed from 68-69. Perhaps this car has the wrong pieces and that's why the fit is so poor.

What happened there is probably a combination of a few things, the first one being a BAD REPAIR when the nose was put on the car. Age can cause some sagging as well. Personaly, I would walk away from anything that looks like that unless the price is very right or you are a body guy . To repair all that properly can get expensive.

It looks like a previous quickie hack and pack job was performed on this poor car. So seeing how they repaired that, should make you wonder what else they skimped on and what else lies under the paint.

On a good note, a body like that should leave a lot of room in the negotiation of the price.

Admittedly, I am not an expert, but I do have the body off my 69 right now. You can really see how body mounts and shims will affect panel gaps when you lift and support the body off the car. You may want to do a THOROUGH search around all 8 body mounts. Hard to tell from your pics, but I would say the the 2 and 3 or 2, 3 and 4 mounts may be gone (due to rust), or may not be shimmed correctly yet (also due to various factors up to and including rust. The door hinge pin bushings may also be shot. Put the car on a lift or up enough to get way under there, and use a pick to probe all the mounts, and the heavy metal rocker channel supports. If you do not know what to look for, these can be very difficult to inspect. However, they start at the number one mount, and go back to the the number 3 mount running along below the fiberglass rocker channel. If these are shot, and mine were, the body will sag in funny ways, causing funny gaps. The shims are merely pieces of flat steele, so they could easily be gone after 40 years. Also on a 68, the body rests on aluminium spacers, mine had turned to Aluminium dust basically and the ones that were left crumbled when they fell on the floor. Just some random thoughts. If it was good advice it was only marginally good, but free.

I'd be willing to bet the doors have been off of this car. Good luck with the deal.

I wondered if the car had the correct trim pieces, have been unable to find anything on this.

Body mounts are good and the aluminum spacers are new, car had a frame off 15 yrs ago. Fram looks OK, Winessed pics of the car and frame before and after during the restoration
