Are they the same size? I know they need to be drilled for rivets.

The later bars did not use a bonding strip. They just bonded the bar to the nose. So really you do not need to use the bonding strip at all. Had plenty of adjustment of the head light without the bonding strip on my 68, The way I see itm the factory seen it was not needed in the later cars and I like the idea of less problems with less bonding.

I don't understand what year you have, and what year the doner bar is from. There is a difference in how the headlight relays mount to the header bar. But as suggetsed with the structural adhesives available today, having to rivet a metal part to fiberglass in order to have it adhere to fiberglass is a thing of the past.
I have a 68-72 that came with a bonding strip that riveted to the header then was glued on to the surround.
1. I have the header bonding strip from a 68- 72 as my car is a 68
2. I have a 73-82 type header bar
Now I know I can just glue it to the surround.
My question is... Is there a difference in the size of the header bar on the 68-72 compared to the later models
As I see it, the only difference is needing to drill holes
