Hi all, just curious to see how many of us stick shifters had their 4 spds replaced with this Tremec TKO...if so, how do you like it? Does the shifter loosen up over time? Mine is so tight and sometimes I miss 3rd when racing at the strip on the back end...I installed myself via a loaner lift and tranny jack...any input appreciated...DDBS
Yes the shifter loosens up a bit over time. I have said in the past and will continue to state that the TKO is the hands down best mod I've made for my car.

Something to try. When you come out of second just palm the shifter forward and let it find the 3/4 gate by itself. Pushing to the right while up shifting to 3rd can cause the shifter to hit the middle of the gate between 3rd and 5th. and cause a miss shift. Coming from a 4 speed competition plus to a TKO takes a little getting used to.

Going from the T56 in my C6 to the TKO in my girlfriend's V6 'stang, I've noticed third is REALLY hard to grab. The T56 is pretty much a straight-forward push, whereas the TKO will hit the gate. (I've NEVER missed a 2-3 shift in my life with a T56, and I missed 2-3 two or three times in my girlfriend's TKO since we bought it a few days ago).
Feels like to me the best bet is to slow your motion down or add a slight pause between 2->N and N->3. The gears are spaced pretty widely horizontally compared to most transmissions, so it requires more time for the shifter to self center.

Thx GMJIM, I did buy mine from you guys at Classic Chevy 5 spd. and have had zero problems with, I guess its just hard getting used to an external shifter linkage 4 spd. to an internal linkage on the new 5 spd., I did race it last week and never missed a shift- I tried to slightly delay my 2-3 shift and it worked well...thanks for the input...DDBS

My $0.02.
Thanks SharkRacer, I know where you are coming from there...the gates are pretty close together vs. a stock shift, but I am slowly getting used to it- my TKO600 is only 400 miles old, so I know it will take some time to get aquainted with it...I also agree that a slight delay in the 2-3 shift has helped- I raced it last week and never missed third...if you do miss third, it adds a whole second to my quarter mile ET's...thanks for the input- DDBS
