Default '74 bumper question

I'm going to have my '74 painted this spring. The original 2-piece rear bumper has been replace with a fiberglass single one. Should I get a fiberglass 2 piece one [or one that at least looks like the original]?
If you know of a good vendor for the 2 piece type, let me know.
Thanks.

It has been a few years back, but I believe I went with the Flex-fit true 2 piece bumper that I bought from Ecklers. Bases on other posts, I guess I may have got lucky as it fit great with no alterations to the rear fenders. To aid in adjustment you will need to oval out each of the attachment bolt holes. Start by lining up at the top and then work your way down the sides. Definitely buy a stainless steel mounting kit.

I also used a dremel tool to cut out the "squares" where the factory license plate bracket comes through, and also needed to cut out the areas where the license plate lights go. Lastly, once each side of the bumper was positioned, I drilled a few holes through each inner piece of the two bumper pieces and used some stainless steel bolts and washers to bolt the two inner halves together. (similar to how the factory used staples or rivets on the stock urethane bumpers) to hold the two halves together.

Papa C,

You might take a look at our flexy glass covers too! There is also some help info on the install of bumpers on our web site. The flexy glass bumpers come with the simulated line between the two sections. http://willcoxcorvette.com/advanced_...bumper%20cover

Personally, I would use a flexy glass cover over fiberglass and I would try to keep the car as close to original looking as possible.

If what you have at the moment fits I would leave it alone. But that's just me: the split (real or faux) is not important.

If you go with the real split version, I would point out that you will need 1974-only braces for each side to keep things secure.
