Default '74 4-speed with which engine??

Hello all, I am new to this forum and I have really enjoyed reading the posts.

I am looking to buy a '74 convertible 4 speed, just like the one my father used to have. I recently bought an original 1974 Corvette sales brochure from ebay (it's pretty cool). But now I'm confused.

According to the original sales brochure, there were three engine options back in '74:

1. "Standard Engine" with 195 hp, Turbo-Fire 350-4 V8
2. 250 hp Turbo-Fire Special (RPO L82)
3. 270 hp Turbo-Jet 454-V8 (RPO LS4)

The sales brochure says the 4-speed is available "only with the Turbo Fire Special or Turbo-Jet engines." But I am finding cars available for sale that have the 4-speed and the 195-hp engine. What's up?

Any info appreciated before I pull the trigger on my new '74. Thanks all.

I've got a brochure as well. It doesn't show they came with a 4 speed but they were offered. There were only 5474 Vert's produced and of that number those with a 4 speed and 454 were even fewer. Below is a chart showing what options the '74 was offered in terms of Code, Engine, Compression, Tranny, Carb.

Code Engine Compression transmission Carburetor
CKZ 350-cid 195-hp V-8 9.0:1 manual four-barrel
CLB 350-cid 195-hp V-8 9.0:1 4-speed manual with NB2 four-barrel
CLA 350-cid 195-hp V-8 9.0:1 THM-400 automatic four-barrel
CLC 350-cid 195-hp V-8 9.0:1 THM-400 automatic with NB2 four-barrel
CLR 350-cid 250-hp V-8 9.0:1 4-speed manual four-barrel
CWM 454-cid 270-hp V-8 8.25:1 4-speed manual four-barrel
CWR 454-cid 270-hp V-8 8.25:1 THM-400 automatic four-barrel
CWS 454-cid 270-hp V-8 8.25:1 THM-400 automatic with NB2 four-barrel

Code CWM is what you're looking for!

I would think that the 4spd. would have been available for all engine offerings. Maybe not the same type, wide or close ratio. Usually close ratio with the perfomance engine's..

Yes, it must be talking about the Close Ratio 4-speed.

M20 Wide Ratio standard with all engines.

M21 Close Ratio available at no extra cost but with optional engines only.
