Shifter Plate Question
I am refurbishing a '70 bb and have a question about the shifter plate. When I purchased the car the previous owner had installed what looks like a chrome shifter plate and I want to replace it with an original black plate. I have two questions: 1) Why the chrome insert? and 2) Are all of the '70 shifter plates the same? The second question is because someone told me that they changed them for the late model cars. Does anyone know the answer? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, First, all plates were chrome underneath, then painted black leaving the raised portions chrome. I am guessing you may have an original plate that was stripped, making it show the chrome underneath. If that is the case, it is a simple restore. Also, there were some changes during the year. Do you have a picture of the one in your car now? Thanks, John
