i'm ready to put my front end back together, and i'm putting new ball joints in the A-arms. on the lower ball joint there are two bolts that screw into the ball joint to secure it to the A-arm. one bolt is regular hex head, and the other is more like a stop. does anyone know if the "stop" goes forward or rear?? thanks, rick
Even after reading the above link -there seems to be no real clear answer. I am currently reassembling the front suspension on my 69. I put the large head bolts facing the rear. Reason - there is nothing in the front that needs it.
As many said - they probably aren't needed. A regular bolt would be fine.
I would vote...rear..., by 71 both rivet heads were the same because a stop had been added to the arm itself by welding a little plate on to the rear of the arm an inch or two inside of the rivet.

Alan
I purchashed a rebuild kit from Ecklers. When I took them apart, I had the 2 different types of mount hardware that you are talking about. The rebuild kit came with all standard hardware. All of them the same. Don't know if that is right or not, but that is what the kit had in it. Will be waiting for the final answer.
Hey, just found a pic of my A-Frames before I had them tore all the way down.
Kinda hard to see, but mine were installed on the rear, I believe, when I got the car. Not saying 100% that is correct, but this is they way mine were.
