I need to replace my tach. and lower left dash pad. Can anyone give me info on how to get to get the dash pad off, I know I gotta drop the steering column, not sure on that either, also seems to be a ring near the bottom of the steering column that goes over the extended part of the dash pad, does that move? 1977
On my 77 I found it easier to remove the whole steering column it's not that big of a deal and while you got it out good time to replace the rag joint. It's a little difficult to unhook the speedo cable . If you have cruise control unhook the speedo cable from the cruise transducer and it will give you more room to get the dash cluster a little a little further out to un latch the speedo cable from the back of the speedo cluster
Purchase the assembly instruction manual. It's not a How-To, but the AIM shows how the dash was assembled, where the screws are, and the location of everything you're going to find behind it.

I have it, is very unclear, steering column has a cylinder that goes over the extended part of the dash, doesnt seem to move, dont want to damage the dash, doesnt show anything in the book
You have the two bolts holding the column to the underside of the dash remove them then remove the bolts against the firewall loosen up the rag joint coupling and pull aft on the column and the column will come back along thth the dash pad. Not as hard as it sounds.
