ok, so here's the story....
I have a 1980 that i'm about to start a restoration on. somehow and sometime this week it seems that i have misplaced the keys. and i've turn my house upside down!
i've called the local locksmith and he is under impression that the whole steering column has to come out. is this true?
has anyone else had this problem??
whats the best plan to attack with the delimma?
Yes, you can remove the key cylinder while the column is still in the car - check out the excellent papers prepared by Jim Shea here (http://jimshea.corvettefaq.com/).
It's a bit of a pain, and you need to remove a bit, but it's doable.
For the 1980 model year, you will need a C blank for the ignition and a D blank for the doors. A locksmith might be able to cut your key if you take him the ignition cylinder and the correct blank.
Abnormal, try one of the Holden dealers - that lock mechanism should be the same as the older HZ Holdens and they may be able to help - forget the VIN - no US VIN will work over there.
I read the Jim Shea papers and they are indeed really good. Should help.
Hope life is good in my favourite city! I was there over the Chrissie break visiting my place in Brunswick...
