Long story about the pipes. Wife surprised me with them for Christmas, turns out they are Knock-offs, but I'm using them cause they're the best(only) ones I got. They are said to have htc coating, which I think is ceramic, the coating looked like crap on the headers, but the side pipes were nice and shiney like chrome. Well, I found out the collectors were stainless so I polished off the coating and polished the collectors, very bright like chrome. I was hoping for the best and installed them. I fired up the engine and did some tuning and messing around stopping vacuum leaks and saw the primary pipes had the coating bubbling up from the heat up close to the heads. Did I miss something or is this coating bad? Is there a process to season the coating so it doesn't keep cooking the stuff off. The primarys at the collector are more dull than they were and I guess I can live with it till maybe next winter to get the pipes and headers coated alike.

I guess it could have been paint, but that stuff was tough and would polish up like chrome. I was hoping that it just wasn't processed or baked on right.
the collectors are stainless but the primarys are regular steel.

Like Duke94 said, send them to Jet hot, seems like the best solution, I have Hooker Ceramics and the Jet hot coating is reputed to last longer, and they definitely look better too.

no way those were ceramic!! must have been paint!! as far as hp i thought the less restriction the more hp you gain so how can undercar exhaust produce more power???
send them off to jet hot the headers anyway and have them coated!!

Don't return them back, that way your wife will think she made a wrong decision when she bought them for you and that will just break her heart. Send them to Jet-Hot and just tell her that they will be much better if they'll be coated.
You are a very lucky man to that wife!

Another option is to sand blast them and coat them with high heat flat black, if you get the right stuff it will seem like it goes right into the metal and will not peel, chip or flake off. The stuff I bought in the past was great, you could get anything on it and it would just burn off. My opinion is that flat black looks great but it may not be for you.

To the OP...send them off to get coated but dont tell your wife. No need to make her feel bad about doing something nice for you.
