posted this in the sale forum but I think it probably should be posted here instead:
Hi everyone,
I am a new member and need help from those here with corvette experience as it has been a long time since I owned a corvette. I am looking at a '75 L82 automatic convertible with deluxe interior, factory ac, power windows and factory hardtop. I am told it is all original and numbers matching car. It looks very clean inside and out. Seller tells me there were only 366 L82 convertibles made in 75. I really like the car but I am not real familiar with true market price for this car. What do you all believe is a fair price for this car assuming it to be original. It has 83,205 miles on the odometer. I am getting ready to deal so I need help. I want to keep the asking price out of the equation to not influence any numbers on your opinions.
Thanks for your help. I look forward to being a corvette owner and participating in this forum.
Do you have any pictures? if so, please post them
Did you check to see if the numbers match?
Does it have any rust problems? (birdcage or elsewhere)
Does everything work, including the AC, Headlights, etc?
It's hard to come up with a value from a description. I'm sure others will come up with some more questions for you to give you an accurate value.
Its gonna be some where between 1,500 & 50,000... just kidding.. I use ebay a lot to get an idea on just about anything.. theres many others sources to look at to but you can get ballpark idea of whats reasonable for what..
'75 is arguably the least desirable year for the C3. However, a two top convertible and an L-82 are very desirable options. AC is a big plus too. Like others have said, it's hard to guesstimate a value without some more specifics and some pictures, but if we are talking about an original car without rust issues that runs well and everything working, decent interior and paint, I fee comfortable saying it should pull north of $10,000. Ondagawood's $15,000 sounds awful steep to me, but it might get that if it has been really well cared for. Good luck!
If you go to the link below you will find that that car in "good" condition comes in at about $17,000.
I do question that figure of 366 as I do not believe GM had/has records of how many L-82 engines were put in convertibles. Nevertheless, only 4,629 convertibles were produced and only 2,372 1975 Corvettes had the L-82. Putting the two together (L-82 and convertible), whatever the figure is, does make for a low-production car.
thanks for all the replies, you all have been very helpful and it has helped me make a decision...........the car is very well taken care of and everything works as far as gauges, lights, buzzers, birdcage.......there does not appear to be any rust on this car that I can see.........it looks pretty darn good.........
Well, keep us posted on the decision and welcome to the group.
We insist on pictures (as you've learned) so get good with steady images. Some of us have a hard time making out the subject matter when it's all blurry.
Durango Boy has a great writeup on how to post images, if that's an issue. Shout out if you can't find it through a search (don't have immediately handy here).
I think you guys are missing the mark on the 75 convertibles. I though they were more so i did a quick search (private partys) and the lowest one that i could find in nice shape was 15,900. Most were in the 20 to 25K range. Also the L-82 were on the upper end.
thanks again everyone for your help....I asked because I was seeing prices along the lines of what 69MA states and when I compared the relative condition of the cars in the low and mid teens to those in the high teens and twenties, the condition on the lower priced cars were not very clean or non matching #s.....and none were L82s.......
I wanted to post some pictures, but unfortunately,. I don't know how
does anyone know how to identify the Z07 suspension?????
Now you are into "rare" territory: only 144 of those came out of the factory. The car you are looking at won't have it as it is automatic. The Z07 package was available only with L-82 engines AND required the M-21 (four-speed) transmission.
But these cars are very enjoyable without all the rare bells-and-whistles.
ran the vin, it is a T in fifth position on the car, had numbers verified and it is the original engine and trans.....car is very, very clean, no rattles when running over bumps, no squeaks, both tops are in very good condition and the birdcage is excellent, no rust and goes up and down easily ....although original hardtop is heavy and needs two people to remove, but is in very good condition and original with the car.........local corvette shop put it on the rack and said to me it was a very original and unmolested vehicle in very good shape, a "real car" so he said.....all bushings are there and in good shape..........not the original color, but nice black with medium saddle interior, originally it was medium saddle exterior as well..........gave me the green light to buy, so I'm pulling the trigger
thanks for all your help....I need to learn how to post pictures to share with you
Welcome to the Land of the 'Vette. The only street legal Super Car an average American can afford! enjoy! few cars out there like it, and none at this price, also hope you enjoy turning a wrench, as that's the dues. C.
