I have a 78 and am making it a convertible. I have access to a rear deck off of an earlier model so it was cut for a different gas tank filler opening. I am going to replace my gas tank anyway before installing a new engine so my question is:
Can I change to an earlier year tank so the gas filler opening will be in the correct location for me. I'm not sure if the outer dimensions of the tanks are the same or if the inner tub was further forward in the older models? I'm just trying to decide whether it will be easier to go with an older smaller tank or rework the fiberglass for the filler opening.
Hi M,
The tanks are 68-74, 75-77, and 78-81 in general configuration. All 3 styles have the rear of the tank sitting on the rear cross member, so the location is relatively the same.

Alan
