Cool car! GM did not keep any records of what car had this, this but not that, etc., so there
is no way to know with certainty how rare your car is, but it is probably fairly rare. The base
coupe with 454 would have included the M20 wide ratio 4-spd, 3.08 axle and black vinyl interior;
everything else was optional. All coupes had t-tops. I knew a 73 years back that had the 454,
M21, A/C, a radio and nothing else.
Ya i've seen those numbers before, i was just curious if there was a better set out there Is there a way to tell anything by the vin number?
As for the tranny my dad always told me it was the M21 "rock crusher" Is there a way to tell that by the numbers on the tranny? Cuz i shoulda looked when i had it out. lol.
One of about 1500 guestimate. There were 4412 big block cars in '73 and about 16% of those could have been convertibles. About 59% of 73 production got the TH400 so you can somewhat reasonably assume 59% of the big block cars were automatic. The problem arises from trying to figure a percentage of a percentage.
I will agree the lack of options tends to make her somewhat rare from a time when folks were beginning to heap on the options. Unfortunately, you may never know how many were like her.
i believe that there was a guy on here that went by tom73 that had all the information on 73s. his site was the 73 spot and he had a link to it on is sign in, he was from Round Rock Texas
I ran all the numbers on my '73 (moderate amount of options) for fun. Statistically speaking, my car is so rare it doesn't exist. It's less than one of one.
mine was a L82,M21, AM/FM mono coupe.Blue/Green/Drk SDL interior no power anything or extra crap.
Thats what I miss about the old cars, you could custom build them the way you wanted....you didn't have to take option package A or option package B in grey or tan
Buyers who wanted to drag race the car didn't get 'power' options in order to keep the weight down and put all the HP to the drivetrain. Buyers who bought it for looks [and with money] got every option available. I doubt that a 454, 4-sp. with low options was very rare.
And if 27,872 had power steering that leaves 2592, and only 4,412 w/ big blocks, i'm guessing it's kinda rare. But like i said i'm not worried cuz it won't ever leave my possession
