There are a series of worm gears and an idler gear that turn the odometers. The first worm gear is on the magnet assembly that makes the speedometer register. If this, or the second worm gear that meshes with it are worn, as all of them do eventually, the speedometer will still register, but the gears won't mesh to turn the odometers. A rebuilt or new frame and magnet assembly and a second worm gear fixes the problem most of the time. As for the issue where everything works, but you can't re-set the trip odometer, that can be a couple of things but most often the gear on the internal mechanism which the trip cable turns when re-setting may be slipping and needs a repair. Also do-able. www.harrisonspeedometer.com
Thanks for the information. Yes, the speedometer still works. I assume that you recommend Harrison Speedometer to fix the complete assembly since both odometer and trip odometer are not working. Anything special to look out for or hints when removing the assembly?
If you are interested in repairing it yourself, I can send you a document that I downloaded and used to fix my own. It is very nicely done with pictures and arrows to point out the parts.
Also, the original worm gears are made of nylon but I don't recommend replacing them with the same type. Corvette Central has brass replacements that will likely never have to be replaced again.
There is a little tool that you screw onto the trip reset **** to give more leverage. You then spray WD40 or alike up the tube and this frees everyting up. Fixed mine without any other repairs.
The guys sells then on Ebay and I think I have seen him on the Forum.

CC,
Thanks. Would you send me the document you downloaded? I would like to look at it and see if it something I should tackle or send out for repair. Is there anything special or hints on pulling the assembly out that I should look out for? I have heard about the brass replacements. Thanks DLC
