Default Need help with steering control valve

Hello again just found a issue with steering control valve when injecting grease into fitting of unit,oil flows out rather than grease.Also about 1/4 ince of play where pitman arm goes into unit,is this normal or is unit shot?would rebuit or new the way to go?Who is a good supplyer?Thanks for any input

It sounds to me like the seals internally are leaking. I'm not sure about the amount of play by the ball stud. In any case I would replace the whole unit. There have been a lot of post regarding whether new or rebuilt is the way to go. I think it all depends on how much you can afford to spend. I rebuilt my own unit and it has been fine..

With your engine off it is normal to see about 1/4 inch of travel in the ball stud where it attaches to the valve. When you start the engine, the ball stud motion should be very slight.

I am afraid that adding pressurized grease to the valve may have unseated one of the lip seals inside the valve. I would try just driving it for a short time and see if it continues leaking. (You may have just drained a small amount of power steering fluid into the ball stud cavity.) Maybe pressurizing the system by driving it will seat the lip seal again.

Check the fluid level of the PS fluid and watch it carefully for a while. Be sure to check the level with the engine cold since the fluid level in the reservoir will vary with temperature.
