Default Temp Gauge Issue

When I re-did my motor last year I changes the temp sensor and wire with one I bought from Zip. The connector on my harness was bent so I also ordered a wire from Zip. Now my tempure gauge only goes to about 160 degrees when the car is warmed up. I verified with a Temp gun I am at 190 at the thermostat. Everything was working fine before pulling the motor with the old Temp sending unit. I did put some Thephlon Tape on the new sending unit. I have tried Runnning a ground and touching the Temp sending unit but it did not make any difference. What are the chances my new sending unit is not compatible with the gauge in my car. Also the gauge was replaced last year and it work fine prior to pulling the motor

Thanks
Marty

It is possible that the temp sending unit is not compatible the resistance is probably not the same as the old one...there are many posts on this subject check out the search your are not alone this happened to me last year thought I had a problem with the sender but it was my thermostat that was stuck open, so after I replaced the thermostat my temp was 15 degrees higher with the new sender...put the old one back in & presto just like it came from the factory!
