Default Q-jet

I have a Q-jet carb with a number of either #17058212 or #70258212 and after that is BJA while underneath is #2417. Anyone have any idea as to what it's for? A guy wants to sell it to me as being a carb for a Vette. He says it's for a 76 big block shich is wrong cuz they stopped with the BB in 75. Can someone help me figure out what it is?

17058212 = 1974-78 Chevy/GMC Trucks with remote choke according to this web site:
http://www.carburetion.com/qjet_ref.htm.

The other number is not a valid part number.

170 = after 76
58= 78
2= 50 state emissions
1= chevy division
2= auto trans

there is usuualy a date code like you have shown for when the carb was made yours shows as

production code BJA made on the 241st day of the year 1977

I'd don't think I'd believe much of anything the guy was telling you if he said it was for a 76 big block, but if the price it right, it might still be worth taking a chance on it.

The fifth digit tells us its from a 1978 truck. The BJA is the broadcast code which tells us it was assembled for a particular motor/tranny configuration like auto or 4-speed. The date code tells us that it was a PRODUCTION carb and installed on a factory vehicle versus over the counter.

So it very well could be a truck big block carb from a 78 Chevy/GMC vehicle.
