Default Refinishing My Interior??

I have a 79 Corvette and I am trying to refinish my interior on a strict budget. I have already replaced the carpet and the seats thru Willcox corvette.

The question that I have is is there a way to refinish the back pieces on the car. This piece goes around the rear window in the interior. Mine is currently black which is what i would keep it. The plastic or whatever it is made of is flaking.. Do i just sand it down or paint thinner? and repaint it or redie it?

Next question is the dash of my car.. It is cracked and also just like the back the black is flaking away.. is there any way to fix the dash??

My interior door panels are in good shape just a dirty is there anyway that i can clean it without taking out the die?? or even better a way to redie the panels?

Any help would be appreciated. I also took some pictures of the interior, just not sure how i post them on here.

Thanks Everyone

Greg

I just redid the interior last week. I pulled off all the trim and superglued the broken parts and scrubbed everything with a lot of soap and water. Made a mess in the kitchen. It is real cold here..
I bought the dye from Wilcox and redid everything I could do. You can do the doors, trim and center console. You will have to replace the dash to get away from the crack. They make covers that you can just glue over it and it will at least hide the crack. The carpet is so nice. I would hate to guess what was spilled in 30 year old carpet from the golden age of disco!! Smells a lot better as well when I got all that old insulation out of the car. Bought new for about 15.00 at the hot rod shop. Worked nice.

Clean them up and paint them. They're plastic. Krylon semi-flat black will match. You can also shoot them with SEM automotive interior dye.

Fix? Not quite. You could live with it, replace the dash ($$), or put a dash cap on it. Some folks have good success with dash caps, others do not. You can redye what you have.

Soap and water will clean them up, improve their appearance, and save you the cost of a pair of replacement panels.

If you have 'stuff' flaking off you interior panels, they have been painted by a PO. Unless you strip all the paint off, you can't use vinyl dye. Dye bonds with the plastic; if it can't get to it, it won't bond. You will have to use paint again. Sad, that folks don't know the difference...vinyl dye is wonderful stuff. [vinyl dye doesn't 'flake']
