Default Forum not what it was

This forum is simply not what it was a few months ago. With Lars being gone and DB being banned, the spirit is gone. Lars probably knows more about carburetors than anyone on the planet. DB was a prolific poster who could always be depended on for quick correct answers to questions (especially on stereo equipment).

I know that since I mentioned DB this will probably get locked, but someone has to say it: I now wish I hadn't paid for my supporting membership. I think some of the moderators are too heavy handed when it comes to censorship. The love is gone!

I guess I don't understand. I very much enjoyed Lars posts as well as DB but Lars decided to leave on his own for his own reasons moderators had nothing to do with it. DB had issues that went beyond censoring posts. I wish them both well and will miss there posts but I signed up for the Corvette Forum not for any one or two people opinions or posts.

There are some great resouces on here for many issues and projects. I don't get some posters points and I am sure they don't get mine but this is one of the best vehicles out there for people to talk Vet's, and it is free for anyone to join in. No it's not perfect but come on.

Moderators are not any more heavy-handed than they have ever had to be. You try keeping peace (for nothing) and see how enjoyable it is.

Calling out volunteer moderators has to be the single most foolish thing to do here.

I realize that it isnt a good thing when members that are generaly liked and have lots of info that they share with others leave the forum for one reason or another.

However, I wouldnt say that the spirit of the forum is gone.
This is a great forum with many great people, and certainly the absense of two members out of thousands of members and viewers will not make this forum any less worthwhile.

The mods have a difficult job to do, and do it well as far as I am concerned. They may seem harsh at times, but they are needed none the less to keep things in order here.

And who knows, maybe those that are now gone, will return at some point

I belong to several automotive forums as I own several different brands of automobiles and like to putter with them so am always looking for help.
IN MY EXPERIENCE, NO FORUM HAS THE DEPTH OF KNOWLEDGE AND RESPONDS AS QUICKLY AS THIS FORUM.
Now, having said that, and being a memeber since 1999 I can honestly say that the forum has changed and not necessarily for the better.
There are more personal attacks and more petty arguments among people who used to share camaraderie and treat one another with respect, because we all love our Corvettes.
It's probably not that obvious to the new guys but those of us who have been memebers for a while see the change. It's no secret that many who were regular contributors and helped others at every opportunity have moved on because of some of the pettiness and BS.
Maybe the forum can change again and this time go back to being the friendly helpful place it once was. I know I could not have restored my Corvette without all the people on here who helped me with advice and often parts. This is a great forum with equally great people but there has been some decline.
There is enough infighting elsewhere in the world; we don't need it here where we all speak the common language of Corvette.
Kurt

The part about censoring posts refers to any mention of DB. I understand he had problems with a transaction from the forum, but I think other remedies would have been better, perhaps stopping him from sales activities, or something in that area. I think that sometimes removing a voice like that from the forum harms the forum much more than the poster.

My hope is that the moderators will read the posts here and take it as constructive criticism and not as a personal attack. I know they have a tough job with no pay. As president of a large homeowner's association I am familiar with that. I want to see the forum improve. I am concerned for it's current direction.

all forums change over time, I've been a member of several and few stay the way they were in their infancy. I think the mods do a fine job considering.

This forum is much different than it was in 1999.

I haven't been around very long so I don't know if or how much things have changed.
I do think that sometimes people could be more civil with each other. It's too easy to give a 'smart' reply to someone when they're 1000 miles away. I always try to reply as if I was standing in someones garage talking Corvettes with them.
Everyone (O.K. almost everyone) has something interesting to ask, show or reply.
CF really is a remarkably wide range of PEOPLE and CORVETTES. I'm very lucky to be able to a part of it!!!
Regards,
Alan

I think criticism of the mods, whether constructive or any other kind, is best kept to PMs or e-mails. They are volunteers and I can see how taking public criticism is not what they signed up for, neither is it very much fun. They have also stated that this is their preference numerous times.

I agree with the OP.

I'm not criticizing the moderators in any way, nor am I challenging their decision. However, this forum is diminished in quality of content without these key contributors. It is disappointing that nobody could resolve this in a more productive manner.

Two people don't make a forum. It's a community here. The wealth of information that's matched nowhere.
At times I am really shocked at some of the petty B.S. between members, some of the negative comments, considering we're all here for a common love.
Like Alan, try my best to help and discuss a topic or question or contribute an opinion as though we're hanging in the garage having a few cold ones talking Vettes. If I feel I have nothing of value to say, I don't.
I've been here a little over 2 years now and have seen change as any organization, people come & go.
It's still a great place and one of my favorite places to relax. I've learned an amazing amount here and deeply respect and am awed by what some of the people here can do.
Members have been extremely gracious in answering my questions, at times going above and beyond PMing me with videos, links and complementing my vette which is certainly no show car.
Moderators have a thankless job and need to keep order. If we stay here then except their judgments.
Now, on to spring and driving our beloved Vettes!
