I have seen people use a kit from Dynamat to reinforce the kick panels. It is a speaker mounting kit that has a couple square feet of Dynamat for around $20.
It would be best to mount the speakers to the [metal] body panels instead of the plastic kickpanel. It will be mounted firmly and the speaker won't be 'wigglin in the wind'. Add some fibreglass sound deadener behind them and put the kickpanel over them. Or, if you need, you can cut a clearance hole in the panel, too. Just my .02.

Correct.

A plate should be made to separate the front waves from the back. With a plate & 3 screws tight into metal & one loose the sound is better after tightening the 4th! The energy should be put into moving the speaker cone not the panel.
