The dynamat has a rubber side which is in contact with the floor/wall/etc. In order for that to work, I would assume that it would need to be in direct contact with the floor, as if there were a buffer area, the sounds/vibrations would vibrate and cause more noise. Reflectix is merely bubble wrap, but it does do a good job of reflecting heat. I'd vote for Dynamat then reflectix/insulation, as that is what I just did this past summer.
I agree, for dynamat to work the adhesive side must be adhered directly to the panel or the Dynamat is just so much wasted money. just lying on top of insulation will have no sound deadening effect whatsoever.

I agree. the Dynamat isn't intended PRIMARILY to reduce transfer of sound but is designed to reduce the resonance of vibrating bodies. If you put the Dynamat down first you reduce the resonance of the vehicle panels. Then placing the heat insulation over the sound insulation will help reduce the heat the Reflectix has to deal with.
BTW...be careful about how much padding you put under your accelerator pedal or you won't get WOT because the pedal can't travel far enough (Refletix, Dynamat, carpet, floor mat, etc).

OK, I'm convinced that it's best to put the Dynamat down first when using it in conjunction with Reflectix. Since I've never used it, I didn't realize that it has a rubber side.
