Anyone baked their manifolds like the VHT instructions tell you to do? Does it stink? 250 degrees for 30 min., 30 min. cool down, and 400 degrees for 30 min.
I popped a pair of valve covers into mama's oven. About noon. She got home from work at 4 and never knew
Odor didn't bother me or the dogs. 250 degrees for 30 minutes is all I did.
She never knew they were in the dishwasher, either!
Doing it at 250F only won't cure it completely; but it should get final cure when you run it on the engine for a while. Heating VHT to 400F does start to make some pretty good fumes...not sure I'd want to do it in something that will make my dinner later.
Well the first cycle showed some rust marks, will recoat and start over. I sandblasted them yesterday, but the humitity was 98% so I guess some moisture was captured in the paint.

So what is an alternative oven? ... do you find someone with a kiln?

I used my gas pit today. It get's plenty hot, I just suggest using a pan to cook them on. I think you can get them for a couple of bucks at the grocery store.
Also even at low on the pit for 30 min. the paint baked nice. It doesn't look like powercoating, but it does look harder. I would suggest more than two coats of VHT paint.
Can't wait to see what 600 degrees will look like.
