spun bearing. went to ohio where $40 an hour goes a long ways compared to $120 around here. Rebuilt. Squared, decked, bored. 300 hp, trans rebuilt with a mild 1800 stall. Well, now I know where I can find some spare parts. How can I get this image in the post?
Hey oil pressure sending unit is in the wrong place. It mounts on the top of the block right by dist. and oil temp send unit goes where they have the pressure unit. At least this is how it is on my 81

I just went through this. If you have the radio that gives you a clock on the radio you get the oil temp gauge and not the clock. If you have the oil temp gauge the sensor mounts down by the filter and the OP sender is on the top. If you do not have the oil temp gauge then the OP sender is down by the filter.

I thought 1980 Clock 81 Oil temp guage. So Gordon in 1980 OP switch was monuted by filter? Learn somethingnew today.
That was a lot of words jammed together. I knew what I was saying but after rereading I can see some confusion.
My understanding is that when you had a radio that came with the clock on the face of the radio you got the oil temp gauge in the console gauge cluster. If the radio was the standard radio with no clock on the face of it you got the clock in theconsole cluster and no oil temp gauge. If your car had an oil temp gauge for reasons above the sensor was down by the filter and the OP gauge sender was on the top of the block. If you had the clock in the console and no oil temp gauge the OP sender was down but the oil filter. This is what I got from other forum members and my neighbor has a stock 81 with no oil temp gauge and this is how his is. Anyone with different info please correct me if I'm wrong.
Can I ask about the significance of the blue block color? Not something I have seen in the past, I'm used to orange or black or maybe match the car color...

They switched to "Corporate Blue" in 77 and this coincided when they started to install the small block Chevrolet in other GM cars (Pontiacs, Buick, etc.). I guess GM figured if they painted them Blue nobody would notice but that didn't happen. There were several lawsuits that also resulted from this. I remember reading about one where an elderly gentleman was so insulted that a Chevy engine was under the hood of his new Buick that he sued GM when the dealer refused to take it back. Shortly after that is when you will find on the window sticker the line about GM cars can use engines from different divisions or something like that.
