Hi,
I imagine this has been asked many times, but I couldn't find anything using the search function. I waxed my Vette many times in the years that I have owned it. Is it wise to strip the old wax off occasionally?
My paint is original, so I don't want to use anything too harsh.
Thanks,
Tom

Wash it with Dawn liquid dishwashing soap mixed with water. A good clay-bar treatment will also do wonders to strip off old wax and clean up the paint. Then follow with your favorite polish/wax or sealant.
If you are not familiar with the clay bar technique, make sure you use plenty of lubricant like a quick detailer and allow it to glide over the paint. It will remove all the imbedded crap that your paint accumulates over time.
I see you are from Mass. If you need help bring it down to the Cape and I'll give you a hand.
Greetings!
When I bought my car 4 years ago, the paint was heavily
oxidized after being buried under a couple hundred pounds
of burlap. I tried everything. I asked a friend who,has an extensive
collection of vintage corvettes and he told me to use WD-40.
WD-40? I thought why not. I applied to a section at a time.
Rubbed it in with a soft terry cloth towel with minimal effort
and with another rag, wiped it off.
I couldn't believe how well it worked.
It removed oxidation and moisturized the paint. Then I applied
Meguiar's cleaner wax then applied Gold Class wax and the results
speak for themselves.
