I see they list both types for a 71-74 Vette. I have a vented one for my 72 LT1. I was just wondering which cars have the non vented caps. Mine had the AIR system and the charcol cannister and a vent on the tank that went to the cannister. Just curious.
70-74 used a sealed cap. The vented caps were used from 63-69. In 1970, Federal emission laws changed requiring that cars used a closed system (hence the charcoal can) to prevent venting of fuel vapors to the atmosphere.
With that vented cap, your polluting our air, now don't you feel bad?
Anything with the evap canister should have a non vented cap as the canister is suppose to absorb the vapors from the tank instead of venting to the atmosphere. I thought everything from at least 70' on had the non-vented.
If the fuel vapor system is still on the car and is operational, you need a non-vented cap.
It is operational to the standpoint of venting the tank. I still have the tank connected to the little plastic valve and then to the 1/4 inch solid line that runs to the cannister. I just have the cannister line open to the air. I need to get a new sealed cap.
