Ive had such good results from Simple Green on various things, that I was wondering how it would do in a Cooling System prior to flushing out ? Has anyone tried it ? Is there anything in Simple Green that would be detrimental to the system .. even for a short time ? Thoughts ? Have you heard of a product that cleans well for Cooling Systems ? Thanks.
I used to be the rep for simple green years ago. It is biodegradable and there is nothing in it that would do damage to your system. So I see no problem with it. I don't think it will do much to clean your cooling system, when there are a lot of other products out there that would do a much better job for you.
The owner of the company used to drink it at sales meeting and then get the runs from it.
He would drink it to show us how safe it was.

I have heard it is too corrosive and will damage the radiator.Originally Posted by tommyleea

ExploreIt would be effective if you had oil in your cooling system. The current way to address oil contamination in coolant is to flush the system with Woolite since it doesn't foam up and will emulsify and flush out the oil. If you don't have oil contamination, then it serves no effective purpose.

Your boss sounds like alot of fun to hang with ! I wonder what he does for entertainment ?! I see youre in Mundelein ; I lived in Mundelein for 23 years till property taxes went out of sight due to the new $4,000,000 Police Dept. Building and the Downtown area renovation . My taxes in Mundelein for a 50x150' lot with regular house was $6,200/yr. in 2003 -- just moved to the Florida Panhandle where they are $700/yr. for an acre with regular house. Plus I can drive the Vettes year round down here.Originally Posted by spedaleden

Wear eye protection.
Prestone "cooling system heavy duty cleaner" p/n AS-100P is the best. But discontinued & difficult to find. Was also carried in GM parts dept under GM p/n 12346500. It is a dry 2-part canister w/ 9oz oxalic acid (cleaner) & 2oz baking soda (neutralizer). I tell you all this to qualify what's an excellent direct replacement.
Wear Eye protection.
DAP or Savogran brand "wood bleach" available at hardware store is also dry oxalic acid. Get small tub of it ... go to grocer & get a box of baking soda.
Wear eye protection.
First flush your system w/ water & drain 'til clear. Mix the acid into a 2 gal bucket of hot water & fill & top off w/ water. AFTER reaching full op temp, run at fast idle (~1000-1200) for 60-90 minutes w/ heater ON. Drain, cool. Flush w/ water 'til clear. Drain. Mix soda in bucket of hot water, fill & top off w/ water & run at fast idle w/ heater ON for about 10 minutes. Drain, cool. Flush w/ water 'til clear. REPLACE both t'stat & rad cap. Refill w/ distilled water:antifreeze mix. Promise ya ... it'll clean it REAL good, just like the good ol' stuff that you can't find anymore ... & it cleans the entire system including block.
In addition to above Prestone AS-100P, DuPont did market essentially same product; both are discontinued. Wear eye protection; oxalic acid can burn you.

[/QUOTE]I am not kidding, I'm sure you have read some of my posts, I'm not that bright to come up with this. He would drink about 2 shots worth. The sales manager that traveled with him told me he gets the runs a day later so he can't do back to back sales meetings. I used to do the Cotter Show (True Value store) it was 14 days long. He didn't drink it at that show.

It is a good relaxer. I live accross the street from the old quiggs apple orchard and I keep telling my wife that as soon as my youngest is in college, where out of here. You don't want to know what I pay in taxes. I could buy a place by you. At least your the smart one, you leftOriginally Posted by TheycallmeDave

Is anyone certain that Simple Green and antifreeze is an "OK" combination? I wouldn't try it, unless it can be assured that there will be no problem. Why not just put a jug of Prestone radiator "cleaner" [not flush] in it to clean it up. Follow directions...pretty easy, and it gets out all the collected lime and corrosion [which radiator 'flush' will NOT do].

While I've used the chemical radiator cleaner with success to remove rust and scale, I recently read that an inexpensive combination of 50% vinegar and water works just as well--- I plan to give it a try next time.....it works good cto clean out the coffee machine too.....
I would think that dishwasher soap (e.g., Cascade) would be a good candidate. This is made to clean a mix of things and does not foam as regular soap/detergent can.

Yes..ive considered this too. It has to be bio-degradable since it comes in contact with dishes and drinking glasses. I think ill toss a bit in for the Cooling System flush i do on my sisters car.Originally Posted by toddalin
