Hey guys this is my first post, I am a new member but have been getting ideas for my corvette for about a year now thanks to all your great post. So here is my issue/problem I am 22 years old and no insurance company will insure my corvette; they say you must be 25 since it's a classic car. My driving record is clean. It's a 1974 corvette nothing over the top 496 stroker engine, 13" Wilwoods all around, custom wide body etc. I found that Hagerty would insure someone under the age of 25 I called them told them what I have they said I am building a race car and would not be able to insure me. I am really confused about the whole thing. Are there no young people in this hobby or am just I out of luck. Any and all advice would be great.
i am only 24 but when i got a quote i was 23 and it was only like 400 a year for classic insurance, shop around ive never heard of what your saying, im sure you can find something, go to progressive.com/geico.com/the general.com/allstate.com, etc. im sure you can get a quote, dont play with the little no name companies that try to play safe and hammer everyone
I use Haggerty to insure my 78 and have no probs,I think the 496 stroker and being under 25 is what scares them off.Stay tuned I'm sure someone will have better advice on here.
My only concern is they will insure it for market value and not for everything that's on it and that has been done.
not sure but if it were that or nothing then ide take it and be careful, ive never had a problem but if your going to play around with it then maybee you should just get a policy with full collision

Progressive, Geico, and Allstate won't give "Agreed value" policies.
Progressive tried to tell me my '80 was worth $1500. After fighting for over 6 months, I finally had to settle for $5000. I had about $9000 invested in it.

MAKE SURE you get an "Agreed value" policy.
my quote is at about 400 a year with the value being around 12,000 and could of went up to 15k for 500 a year and will when the engine is redone
I'm 23 and own several vehicles, trucks and equipment mostly. I have my corvette under my farm fleet insurance and its only setting my back less than a hundred every six months for that vehicle. guess I should haul a square bale of hay on the flat back part of it once in awhile to keep anyone from asking questions.
your going to find that if you get "normal" insurance on the car, it will not be for agreed value, and if you get classic car insurance it will be for an an agreed value, and an agreed annual mileage limit.
Go beat up one of your buddies who wrecked his car...its his, and others like him, fault you cant get insurance.
My Dad is my insurance agent, he underwrites for several company's so I trust he puts me with a good one, its a couple hundred a year, www.americanhobbyist.com

The site says you must have ten years driving, can an underwriter alter that?
THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR HELP AND IDEAS SO FAR.
The "rub" you are having is that you are under 25 years of age and you have a modified car with a big-a$$ engine in it. For an insurance agency, that's a recipe for "We're gonna lose money on this one." You can buy basic coverage from one of the 'regular' insurers mentioned, but your car will only be valued at wholesale book value if you total it. I don't know of a viable solution for you until you are 25.
OP, you situation has existed for well over 50 years now, I am shocked and amazed no one bothered to tell you about all this before you went and bought the car....now that you have poisoned the well so to speak, by being honest about the engine and modifications, you are truly out of luck,
I dunno if they bother with actual eyes on physical examinations of the car these days, but I would not be surprised if they do....but from outside you could dress that BB down at minimal expense, and take off some of the fancy wheels and wide tires....arrange a photo shoot that way......
it's the only possibility for you in your position,
