Default Underhood insulation options?

Have an aftermarket L88 hood, so the underside of the hood is bare fiberglass. I will paint the metal framework, but would like to install padding on the fiberglass to clean up the look and absorb a little "thru the hood" noise and heat. Maybe even a spray on product of the "heat tolerant" bedliner type??

Not looking to sand and paint the raw fiberglass.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks.

My recommendation is to get a sheet of dynamat. They sell hood sized sheets that you can use. It gives the underside of you hood a clean look, plus its has metal film on it and when wiped down is pretty shiny.

I don't have any vette pics but i did find a few examples

If you have never used it before it is 1/8 thick sheet of tacky rubber with a heavy X mil(will try and find out exact thickness and then edit) sheet of aluminum on the backside of it. Its super easy to install and block alot of sound and heat.

Thanks. I'm doing my entire cockpit in Dynamat Extreme, but I'm not too keen on the exposed Dynamat under the hood. Looking for more of a pad-style.

Were the bottoms of the L88 hoods insulated to begin with? I know the LT1 hood on my 70 does not have any provisions for the underhood insulation. I just had the bottom of the hood scuffed and painted it flat black. Looks pretty good to me.

No there are no provisions, but as I said its an aftermarket hood. I think it would take a fair amount of sanding to get the rough fiberglass to a point that I'd want to paint it. Would rather just cover it! Guess I'm getting lazy after 3 yrs working on the car!!

I wouldn't call it lazy, just ready to be behind the wheel for a bit instead of working on it.

Thats right! Actually I'm leaning towards a spray-on product that would stand up to the engine heat. Just something to cover the raw fiberglass. Still looking for any suggestions. I think Lizardskin makes a product..

I am not familiar with the underside of an L88 hood but perhaps you could mod a 1974 pad to fit?
