Default Leak down test

My 73 vette has a 75 350 block in it ''original motor is on a stand in my garage'' I decided to do the swap because I wanted ''horsepower''..Lets face it the mid 70's L-48's dont cut it..

This motor is fully worked..A similar set up in chevy magazine had the motor around 385 horsepower without the vortec heads that are on my motor. However it is burning oil through the rings..It failed a leak down test, but I must say I have not seen any change in performance..

A pretty popular race mechanic in my neighborhood said I'm really not going to notice any real changes in performance in day to day use..He explained if I was using the car to do quarter mile passes you would probably notice a few tenths of a second drops in times..So to spend all that money to do a complete re-build or for that matter the bottom end It would not pay..

On my oil changes I use a good quality ring seal lubricant and it does help to some degree...I am going through like a quart every 400 -500 or so miles...Since I use the car like maybe 2500 miles a year its not a problem to keep an eye on it...

Anybody out there with worked 350's that have had a similar problem?
