What brand of degreaser solution do you guys use to remove the thick and chunky stuff? My undercarriage needs a cleaning really bad from front to back - there's like 31 years worth of crude under there! Also, do you guys use a power washer under the car too for cleaning off the grease or is that not advisable?
If you can get under it and power wash it spray some purple power or orange degreaser on it and let it soak for 15 min. then power wash it do this a couple of time it should make it a little easier. The best thing that takes grease off is carb and choke cleaner but make sure you have good ventilation.

I just took it to the car wash once a week. Blasted in all areas. After about a month I started focusing individual ares. Steering parts, oil pan ect. Gotta get real close for the really old stuff. And bring something to kneel on while your doing it. ...ask me how I know
I thought about power washing it in my driveway but between chemicals and black crude running down the street and into the storm drain I should probably avoid incidents which might cause the EPA to come knocking.
I Wish I COULD get under there at the moment.
Put my back out last week.Had a BIG weekend planned-
replacing tach cable and installing NEW tach face and
tuning up my ZX11.Couldn't manage to do any of them.
Oh well, HAPPY EASTER TO ALL.

What would she say if you washed, waxed, cleaned under your 1986 Murray riding mower, and put Armor All on the tires?
i see im not alone. that mower looks too nice to cut the grass but i dont go that far. now she would think your REALLY nuts. my 2 late model vehicles dont look as nice as your mower.
I have layed under mine cleaning, so guilty as charged. The other night I just sat on a couch I have stored in the garage and looked at the car for about 1/2 hour, drinking a beer.
Start by taking it to someone for a good steam/pressure cleaning. Believe me, that is money well spent. Just make certain before it gets cleaned to instruct the guy where NOT to shoot the high pressure stuff. Once the really bad road gunk is off, the real detailing can begin.
After all the time I'm spending sand blasting and painting you bet I'll be under it cleaning. My wife wonders why I spending money on new bolts and washers when no one will see them. But I know they are there.

I used laquer thinner in a spray bottle and lots of towels. That is nasty stuff, so use eye goggles and gloves.
My bride calls my Corvette "the other woman" and yes, she thinks I'm a little crazy. But, I spend as much time doting on her as I do on my Vette (hold the comments about wiping down the undercarriage) so we have bliss around our house!
I do exactly the same thing on the undercarriage and frame of my 68.
I use WD40 on the rag to leave a thin film of protection.
Works great and does not take much effort since it stays pretty clean as I do not drive in the rain or snow, just nice days and sunny weekends.
It also gives me a chance to give everything a once-over checks to look for any potential problems or preventative maintenance needs.

If the underside is this cruddy then a steam jenny is best, but the long wand presents a problem.
Next is a pressure cleaner with a short wand and degreaser with multiple applications.
This car took about a day to do the whole undercarriage and you can't avoid making a mess.
Using a lift is best.
What gets me Ill work on the car for hours, last week put in new fuel pump new water pump and electric fan took two days I get it all done she says "Oh good I can take the vet to work tommorrow" Im like ya right . Not even having the thermostat set to come on at the correct temp yet . I told her dont hold your breath.I do all the work she just gets to drive it .
